Cape Town Market Day

Welcome to Celebrate The Cape, official Blog for Cape Accommodation Finder your on-line resource for B&B's, Guest Houses, Hotels and Self Catering Accommodation in Cape Town South Africa.

Cape Town is not only one of the best holiday destinations in the world but it offers those of us who have the privilege of living here all year round a superb quality of life. You will find that there is so much on offer that it is impossible to see it all or do it all. This is what makes Cape Town so exciting, there is always something new to do or to discover.

Saturday is Marked Day in Cape Town. The ever increasing popularity of markets among the middle and upper classes of the Mother City has provided a wonderful platform for the many talented entrepreneurs that had previously languished in obscurity.

There is nothing better than spending a Saturday morning browsing, sampling and buying some of the best quality artisan breads, cheeses, charcuterie and pastries available in the Western Cape. If all of this gets too much, sit down, relax and have a chat over a cup of coffee or tuck into a delicious breakfast while you do a spot of people watching!

One of my favourite markets is the open air Porter Estate Produce Market. This market is famous for its authentic Moer Koffie, breakfasts, child friendly activities and beautiful rural setting. Despite its rural appearance, nestled comfortably between the Tokai Forest and the Table Mountain National Park, it is surprisingly central and within a few minutes you drive out of “city life” and into “country life”.

On my numerous visits I have noticed that there are many regulars who like me come to do some weekly shopping, buying fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and the usual necessaries (read sweet treat). Others meet up with friends for breakfast, bringing the whole family including granny and even the dog is welcome if on a leash!

The atmosphere is laid back and friendly, allowing you to change gears and enjoy the exceptional quality of life that Cape Town is so deservedly known for.
